Who We Are
Cambridge is a place of discovery, prosperity, and opportunity, and Evan believes those strengths should benefit everyone who calls the city home. Over the past decade, Evan has built a track record of pushing powerful institutions to live up to their values: for workers, for students, and for the broader community.
Diverse
The 25th Middlesex district covers roughly a third of Cambridge. It includes Harvard Square, and parts of Porter and Central Square. The district has all of Riverside and Baldwin neighborhoods, the majority of Mid-Cambridge, Neighborhood Nine, and smaller portions of North Cambridge, Cambridgeport, and West Cambridge in it. 43,000 people live here and the voting age population is 61% white, 19% Asian, 8% Hispanic, 7% Black, and 1% other and multiple races.
Progressive
Our district is the most progressive district in the entire state. The Fair Share Amendment passed overwhelmingly, receiving over 75% support in every precinct in the district. Ballot questions to improve transparency (Act On Mass) and healthcare (Mass-Care / Medicare for All) passed especially strongly in the 25th Middlesex. Trump got less than 5% of the vote in this district. This district includes progressives of all ages and backgrounds, for example older neighbors who were politicized through their opposition to the Vietnam War.
Multi-Generational
Our district has a significant population of students, especially those at Harvard, MIT, and Lesley. It includes every single undergraduate and graduate dorm at Harvard University. Many young people live here and the district has many families with young children. In 2012, voters under 40 were 21% of all primary voters; in 2022, they were 46%. Cambridge is also home to a vibrant community of older adults, many of whom have lived here for decades and hope to age in place.
Impacted
The district has been heavily affected by Trump administration attacks on research funding, academic institutions, and our biotechnology talent pipeline. People who have dedicated their lives to advancing science and education have seen their lives upended. The district is home to thousands of non-citizens who are disproportionately targeted by the Trump administration’s attacks on student and professional visas.
