Q: Was Evan a Republican?

A: In the conservative setting in Florida where Evan grew up, there were closed primaries. Evan was encouraged by local activists to register Republican in local primaries to vote against dangerous Republican candidates, and vote for the better of two bad options. Evan switched their registration back and forth multiple times to make sure they also voted in national Democratic primaries in FL.

Evan has never been part of the Republican Party or voted Republican in Massachusetts. They are an elected board member of the Cambridge Democratic City Committee.
