VOTE FOR EVAN BY MAIL!

Going out of town for the summer? Not sure if you will be back to Cambridge to vote before Labor Day? Does life make it hard for you to vote in person on primary day? Or maybe you just don’t like voting in person?

You can vote early for any reason for the September 1 Primary Election. Learn more about how to vote by mail below:

>>TIP: The main difference between Early Voting by Mail and Absentee Ballot Voting is where you have your ballot delivered.<<

EARLY VOTING BY MAIL

In Massachusetts, you can choose to vote early by mail for any reason instead of voting at your polling place. This ballot is mailed to your registered home address in Cambridge. Apply for Early Voting by Mail online here, or download an application, fill it out, and mail it in.

ABSENTEE BALLOTING

In Massachusetts, you can vote absentee if you are away from your city or town, you have a religious belief that prevents you from voting at your polling location, and/or you have a disability that prevents you from voting at your polling location on Election Day. This ballot is mailed to the address where you are located.  Apply for an absentee ballot online here, or download an application, fill it out, and mail it in.

DEADLINES TO REGISTER

Apply as early as you can, especially if your ballot needs to be mailed somewhere out of town. The U.S. Postal Service says mail can take up to 7 days. To make sure you get your ballot in time and can mail it back, apply at least 2 to 3 weeks before Election Day. Both the Early Voting by Mail and Absentee Ballots must be requested in writing by August 25th at 5 p.m.

RETURNING YOUR BALLOT

You have a few ways to return your ballot:

  • Mail it back in the envelope provided

  • Bring it to your local election office

  • Drop it off at an early voting site during voting hours

  • Use a ballot drop box

>>REMINDER: You cannot return your ballot at a polling place on Election Day.<<

For your vote to be continued in the September Primary, your ballot must arrive at your local election office or drop box by the time polls close on September 1st.
